April marks National Donate Life Month, a time to highlight the pressing issue of organ donation and the nearly 110,000 individuals currently on the transplant waiting list in the United States. Every day, 13 people die while waiting for an organ that never arrives. For those who do receive transplants, the journey is far from over once the surgery is completed. Transplant recipients need extensive support, which includes mentorship, financial assistance, and help navigating the complexities of the medical system.

In 2025, Dr. Bronner’s launched a new philanthropic effort called the Organ Transplant Giving Circle, in collaboration with their technology partner, Purpose in Expenses (PIE). This initiative was founded by employees whose lives have been personally impacted by organ donation—either as living donors or as recipients of organ transplants themselves. These employees brought a unique, personal perspective to the Giving Circle, making the distribution of funds and support even more meaningful. PIE played a key role in generating close to $20,000 in charitable contributions through its innovative giving model.

The Organ Transplant Giving Circle reflects Dr. Bronner’s Cosmic Principle #6, “Fund & Fight for What’s Right,” which underscores the company’s commitment to driving positive social change. The initiative was designed to support a cause that resonated deeply with both the employees and their families.

Employee participants in the Giving Circle dedicated their time to identifying and researching small, grassroots organizations that provide vital support to transplant recipients. Their efforts included due diligence on nonprofits that focus on one-on-one support and mentoring for transplant patients and their families. Ultimately, the Giving Circle chose to allocate funds to two specific organizations: the American Transplant Foundation (ATF) and Organ Transplant Support (OTS).

The American Transplant Foundation provides personalized support to transplant patients and their families, helping them manage the emotional and medical challenges associated with the transplant process. One of their main programs, the 1+1=LIFE Mentorship Program, connects transplant recipients with over 350 trained mentors who speak 17 different languages. These mentors provide guidance, emotional support, financial assistance, and donor search strategies. With additional funding from Dr. Bronner’s and PIE, the American Transplant Foundation raised $253,000 during its 20th anniversary celebration.

Organ Transplant Support, based in Chicago, offers peer mentoring, educational programs, and community support for transplant patients and their families, both locally and virtually. This organization serves individuals at every stage of the transplant journey, from those waiting for a transplant to those recovering. OTS offers one-on-one mentoring, weekly support groups, and monthly educational events to ensure that no one faces the transplant process alone. This supportive network creates a sense of community during one of the most challenging times in a person’s life.

In celebration of National Donate Life Month, Dr. Bronner’s also hosted an internal presentation where an altruistic living donor and a kidney recipient, both members of the Giving Circle, shared their personal stories. Lifesharing, the organ procurement organization for San Diego and Imperial Counties, also participated in the event, educating employees on the importance of organ donation and answering any questions. Employees were then encouraged to register as organ donors.

The Organ Transplant Giving Circle’s efforts have had a profound impact on the transplant community, and Dr. Bronner’s hopes to inspire others to contribute to this life-saving cause. To learn more about organ donation or register as a donor, visit OrganDonor.gov.
